Project no.1 - Karoo Interprative Centre
For this project, I was responsible for designing an iterative architectural design of a multi-story concrete frame building in the Karoo Desert which involved a meticulous and adaptive approach that took into consideration the unique challenges posed by the desert environment. Without harming the site geography or landscape the iterative process forced me to respond effectively to the harsh climatic conditions, maximizing energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort. The concrete frame structure provides strength and durability, ensuring the building can withstand extreme temperatures, high winds, and occasional sandstorms common in the Karoo Desert. Iterations of the design involve the integration of renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on traditional power grids. For my iterations, I explored the use of local materials and architectural elements that blend harmoniously with the surrounding desert landscape.
